Coronary Interventional Procedures

We at The Heart Center use a variety of non-surgical procedures to diagnose and treat patients with heart decease. The Heart Center interventional physicians provide 30 minute response time to open up blocked cardiac arteries in patients presenting at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and St. Lukes/Cornwall Hospital with chest pain. This program saves lives and prevents heart attacks. For a brief summary of some of these procedures, see below, or call for any questions or to set up an appointment.

Atherectomy: This technique removes fatty material clogging narrowed coronary arteries.

PTCA - Coronary Angioplasty: widens narrowed coronary arteries through the use of a balloon at the end of a catheter.

Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS): High frequency ultrasound is sometimes used to determine the interior condition of blood vessel walls; used during a cardiac catheterization procedure.
