The Heart Center congratulates partner Sankar Varanasi, MD, FACC, on his recertification of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Boards given by the American Board of Internal Medicine. This voluntary exam tests the medical knowledge of clinical electrophysiology and proficiency in providing such life saving procedures as radiofrequency ablation and device implantation.
Earlier this year Dr. Varanasi, Electrophysiologist at The Heart Center, performed with associate John Respass, MD, FACC , Hudson Valley’s first atrial fibrillation ablation. Atrial fibrillation is a very common arrhythmia but remains one of the most difficult to cure. This condition creates an irregular and rapid heart rate. The ablation procedure maps the area of the heart causing the arrhythmia, followed by the delivery of radiofrequency signals; it disconnects the pathways of the abnormal rhythm, thereby curing the patient of Atrial Fibrillation.
